Every contact now has a Phone Country Code field showing the country of its main phone number. You can see it on the contact and use it to filter contacts and in the conditions of your workflows and task templates.

1. What the field shows

Phone Country Code is the country the contact's main phone number belongs to, based on its international prefix. For example, a contact with the phone +56 9 1234 5678 shows CL (Chile), and one with +34 666 55 77 88 shows ES (Spain).

  • It's read-only: nobody has to fill it in, it's calculated automatically.
  • It updates by itself whenever the contact's main phone changes.
  • If the contact has no phone, the field is empty.
  • Existing contacts already have it calculated, with no action needed.
  • The value is always the two-letter country code in capitals (ES, CL, MX, CO…).

You'll find it on the contact, in the Data tab, under Main data.

2. How it differs from "Country Code"

The Country Code field hasn't changed and works as before: it stores the country sent when the contact was created or, if none was sent, the account's default country. It doesn't look at the phone.

That's why the two fields can differ. A contact can have Country Code PE while its phone is Spanish, so its Phone Country Code is ES.

FieldWhere the value comes from
Country CodeThe country sent when the contact was created, or the account's default country
Phone Country CodeThe international prefix of the contact's main phone
If what you need is to know which country a contact can be reached from by phone, use Phone Country Code.

3. Where you can use it

The field shows up like any other contact field in:

  • The contact list's Advanced Filters.
  • Workflow conditions.
  • Task template start conditions in your Sales Brain (Playbook).

To filter contacts:

  1. Go to Contacts and open Advanced Filters.
  2. In the condition, pick the Phone Country Code field.
  3. Pick the operator (for example, Is) and type the country code, for example ES.
  4. Click Update.

You type the value by hand. Capitals don't matter: cl and CL find the same contacts.

Conclusion

With Phone Country Code you no longer depend on the country being sent correctly when the contact is created: the country comes straight from the number. That lets you segment contacts, workflows and tasks by the phone's real country.

Relevant scenarios

  • Your team only serves some countries: add a start condition to a task template so the task isn't created when Phone Country Code isn't one of those countries, and your salespeople don't waste time on numbers they can't serve.
  • You receive contacts through the API or forms with no country, or with the account's default country: filter by Phone Country Code to see which countries they really come from.
  • You want to split work by country: use the field in a workflow condition to handle contacts with a phone from a given country differently.
