Source ad on Click to WhatsApp contacts

When a contact writes to you from a Click to WhatsApp ad, their record now stores the ad ID and ad title. You can use them in filters, workflow conditions and your AI agent.

If you run several Click to WhatsApp ads at the same time, you can now see which ad brought each contact. The contact record stores the ad ID and ad title, and you can use them to filter, automate and give your AI agent context.

1. What gets stored on the contact

When a new contact starts a conversation from a Click to WhatsApp ad, two fields are filled in on their record:

  • Ctwa ad: the ID of the Meta ad the contact came from.
  • Ctwa headline: the ad's title.

These fields are read-only and appear in the contact's Datos (Data) tab, under the Marketing category, next to the Ctwa clid field.

In this example the fields are empty ("-") because the contact didn't come from an ad. For a contact who arrives from a Click to WhatsApp ad, you'll see the ad ID and title.

How this differs from Ctwa clid

Ctwa clid is a different identifier for every click, so it can't be used to group contacts. Ctwa ad is the same for every contact who comes from the same ad, so you can use it to segment.

2. How the fields are filled in

  • Only the first ad counts: if the contact later writes again from a different ad, the original ad is kept.
  • Messages that don't come from an ad: if the contact writes from an organic post or directly, the fields stay empty.
  • Earlier contacts: contacts who had already arrived from an ad in the past have been filled in automatically.
Meta sends the ad, not the campaign. If you want to link each ad to a promotion, do it per ad.

3. Where you can use the source ad

Contact list filters and columns

In Contactos (Contacts), open Modificar campos mostrados (Edit displayed fields) and search for "Ctwa" to add Ctwa ad or Ctwa headline as a column. You can then see and filter your contacts by the ad they came from.

Workflow conditions

In a workflow, under Condiciones (Conditions), click Agregar condición (Add condition), choose the Contacto (Contact) entity and search for "Ctwa". You can build rules such as "if the contact came from ad X, do Y".

AI agent

Your WhatsApp AI agent receives each contact's ad ID and ad title. If your account's knowledge base says which promotion matches each ad (for example, "ad 1202… = promotion X"), the agent can use it to answer with the right information.

How the agent uses this information depends on your account's knowledge base and agent setup.

4. Good to know

  • The new fields can take up to a day to appear in the filter and workflow condition pickers.
  • Right after the feature goes live, filters on these fields may take a short while to return results.

Conclusion

With the source ad stored on every contact, you can see which Click to WhatsApp ad brought each contact, segment by ad, automate based on the ad, and give your AI agent the context of the promotion the contact expects.

Relevant scenarios

  • Several promotions at once: with several ads running, each with a different promotion, filter contacts by Ctwa ad to handle each group according to its promotion.
  • High contact volume from ads: use one workflow condition per ad to assign contacts or create tasks automatically based on the ad, without reviewing each conversation.
  • Consistent AI agent answers: map each ad to its promotion in the knowledge base so the agent doesn't give contradictory information.
